As of the 2nd December 2019 the Civil Partnership (Opposite Sex Couples) Regulations 2019 came into force which allows opposite sex couples to enter into a civil partnership for the first time in history.
December 31st 2019 saw the first couples enter into these partnerships after giving their minimum 28 day notice. For many, marriage does not fit with their beliefs, relationship or life choices and by changing the legislation couples can now enter into a civil partnership and benefit from the same tax, pensions and inheritance rules as married couples. This is a very important step which can help the approximate three million cohabited couples in the UK to be able to have the same financial security as married couples.
Entering into a civil partnership will void any existing Wills so new Wills should be made to reflect the change in circumstances.
